99¢ Tacos @ Don Tacha Taqueria

Tacos used to be one of those things that just weren’t expensive; street tacos could run for prices in the dollar range. Now you can find individual tacos running higher than $5, which is pricier than the average tamale. I’m certain there’s several places that might run some great taco specials, but one that I found out does so everyday anytime is Don Tacha Taqueria. There are plenty of food choices, but obviously the highest value one will be the 99 cent tacos, which offers chicken, beef, or pork skin (pork belly) as the meat options. The tortillas used for the tacos are miniature, but is at least double stacked. The tacos are also packed full, so when folded, the fillings may fall out if you’re not careful, which is hardly a complaint since more is better than less. As far as street tacos go, the mini tacos are simply topped with onion, cilantro, salsa and beans. If you like spicy, their hottest sauce is habanero. Personally, my favorite meat is the chicken, as it is always a relatively lean meat.

There is dining both inside and outside, both of which have a cute atmosphere. If you dislike Mexican music a lot, be warned there’s plenty of it playing inside (but not outside). Inside is a tables and a barlike area, which is bar seating, but no actual bar, as the facility doesn’t serve hard alcohol (this requires an expensive license, so not surprised), but they still serve beers, including micheladas, and specially crafted margarita wine cocktails. I have yet to try a michelada, but it’s worth pointing out that Saturdays may offer 2 micheladas for the price of one. I’ve tried both of the wine margaritas, which are surprisingly made with sake, which is Japanese rice wine. These are the Sake-Rita Twist and the Samurai Squeeze, which are appropriately named. It’s not bad for $5, so if you feel like dining in and relaxing, at least there’s something for non-beer drinkers.
