The Valley’s population is obviously increasing, so it is now getting a new area code. Kings County and all 559 areas (Fresno, Merced) will be see this change effective on February 26. The new area code will be 357 and will change the way we dial phone numbers from now on. 559 will still be used for existing numbers, but new phone numbers will use the area code 357. Because there are now two area codes, you must include 559 or 357 even when dialing phone local numbers. As a result, 10 digit dialing will be mandatory (XXX-XXX-XXXX).
